Resource date: Dec 2024

Author: UNFPA Mali

EN

The floods in Mali have worsened the severe humanitarian context already weakened by years of conflict and forced displacement. There have been 49 cases of flooding recorded and 76 people have died. The floods have also resulted in the collapse of 37,092 houses, affecting 259,795 people, of which more than 70 per cent are women and children.

UNFPA has ramped up its support to flood victims and mobilized an additional US$500,000 in emergency funds from corporate resources.

During September, UNFPA assisted a total of 7,016 people affected by the floods through mobile clinics that provide integrated sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services and activities. UNFPA has also been supporting 86 health facilities and four safe spaces for women and girls.

UNFPA are supporting the capacity building of service providers, having trained 45 participants on gender-based violence risk reduction during humanitarian crises, and 26 clinical providers on the Minimum Initial Service Package for SRH and the correct utilization of Inter-Agency Reproductive Health kits.

A funding gap of US$6.6 million still remains from the US$15 million UNFPA needs to provide the necessary SRH and GBV interventions in Mali in 2024.
