Lebanon
Lebanon’s suffering, and the needs of women and girls, remain staggering. Many families were already teetering on the brink even before the escalation of conflict in September 2024, due to multiple and unrelenting crises, including an economic collapse that has sent poverty rates soaring. The recent conflict displaced families and destroyed homes and vital infrastructure, including health services, leaving women without access to critical healthcare, including close to 12,000 pregnant women.
Risks of gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse have all been exacerbated by the current context, particularly for women and girls on the move and those returning to unsafe or damaged homes. Family separation is further increasing women’s and girls’ vulnerability to risks of exploitation.
UNFPA is working alongside the government and partners to restore critical maternal health and protection services, strengthen institutions and ensure that women, girls and youth are at the centre of an inclusive recovery process.
